The Jim Thorpe Police Department and Fire Department have started a Fire Police Unit.  Both men and women are encouraged to join. If interested you will need to come to the Borough Office and obtain applications to join the Jim Thorpe Fire Department as well as the Jim Thorpe Municipal Fire Department. Upon becoming a member, the required training for fire police is Hazardous Material Awareness, Nims 700,100 and 200. The Nims classes can be taken 'on line' through FEMA's Emergency Management Institute. As far as the Hazardous Material Training, Carbon County EMA teaches those classes. Once you complete the training, arraignments will be made to have the Mayor swear you in. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Chief Schatz at (570)325-4995 x322 or email at
