J.T.P.D Police Log

On 18 March 2018, the Jim Thorpe Police Department was dispatched to a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 300 Block of North Street, Borough of Jim Thorpe.Upon arrival Officers learned that James Fitzpatrick, 41 years old of Jim Thorpe was standing on a utility trailer when he was struck by the passenger side mirror of a vehicle traveling South on North Street.  Fitzpatrick sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident.  The vehicle described as an older model red/maroon single cab Chevrolet Pick-up truck did not stop after striking Fitzpatrick and fled the scene. On October 21, 2017, JTPD was dispatched to a MVA involving a runaway vehicle that struck pedestrains at the intersection of Hill Road and West Broadway.  Upon arrival Officers learned that a vehicle being driven by Jean Bruker 85 of Nesquehoning had jumped the curb striking pedestrains, a pole and another vehicle.  Both pedestrains were evaluated by EMS and refused treatment. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Bruker stated that she was distracted and hit the gas instead of the brake.  Bruker's vehicle was towed from the scene of the accident.

Cody North Lewis, 22, of Summit Hill, was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning, after his arraignment Oct, 7 before Magisterial District Judge Eric Schrantz.  Lewis is charged with rape by threat of forcible compulsion, terroristic threats, false imprisonment, indecent assault, simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment. He was unable to post $75,000 percentage bail.  Police were contracted by the victim in July. She said she was assaulted by Lewis inside the Union Publik House, 212 Center St., and then at a residence in the borough. Through further investigation, police were able to secure an arrest warrant for Lewis, who was taken into custody on Oct. 6 at a high school football game.

JTPD along with agents of the Attorney General's Office BNI Unit have charged Christopher N. Evans 25 of Jim Thorpe with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and Dane Skrimcovsky 31 of Jim Thorpe with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The incident occurred in the 400 Block of Fern Street.

David Kroculick, 53 of Jim Thorpe had been charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The charges stem for a search warrant that was executed  at his home on April 4, 2017.  The search warrant was served during an ongoing drug investigation.

Gina Raczkowski 27 of Lansford had been charged with 12 counts of forgery, and 1 count of theft and receiving stolen property.  Raczkowski is accused of stealing checks from the home of relatives, forging their names and cashing them.  Raczkowski had also been charged with burglary, forgery, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property for an incident that occurred at the same relatives home in Jim Thorpe.  Raczkowski is accused of entering the home and stealing a check, forging their names and cashing it.

Jessica Jo Davis, 23 of Kunkletown had been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.  The incident occurred in the 500 Block of North Street while police were investigating drug activity in that area.  Davis was found to be ibn possession of 11 syringes, a bag containing methamphetamine and a cut straw.

Jeremy Knappenberger, 38 of Jim Thorpe had been charged with flight to avoid apprehension, escape, resisting arrest and possession of Drug paraphernalia.  Knappenberger fled police after being told that he had a warrant.  After being searched police found 2 syringes and paraphernalia on his possession.

Jim Thorpe Police have charged a husband and wife with dealing heroin in the borough.  Caleb J. and Allison Herman of Jim Thorpe were arrested on September 11, 2017 during a traffic stop.  Drug charges were filed against both Herman's.

Jim Thorpe Police charged Willard John Yons III, 42, of the 2300 block of Fairyland Road, with felony drug-related counts. Police said Yons was also involved with the sale of drugs. On June 16, Yons fled from his residence when police attempted to serve an arrest warrant. He was captured after a brief foot pursuit and resisted arrest. Yons was eventually subdued and taken into custody. He was arraigned before on-call District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, on charges of risking a catastrophe, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possessing phenylpropanolamine, etc., or a precursor substance with intent to unlawfully manufacture, possession of a controlled substance, operating a meth lab and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.

On Monday September 4, 2017 at approximately 12:07pm, JTPD was dispatched to the Carbon County parking lot for a crash involving a Reading and Northern passenger train and vehicle.  Upon arrival police observed a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse with disabling damage.  The driver of the vehicle, Roy Fatur of Greensburg, Pa. stated that he did not see or hear the train approaching as he entered the railroad crossing.  Fatur sustained a minor laceration to his forearm and his wife who was seated in the passenger seat reported no injuries.  Charges are pending against the driver.

On 24 August 2017 at approximately 5:00pm, JTPD received info on a stolen vehicle from Tamaqua Pa.  A short time later JTPD located the vehicle in the area of Turkey Hill in Jim Thorpe.  The officer approached and the driver later identified as Roberto Mehmeti of Coaldale fled on foot.  Mehmeti was taken into custody a short time later. Mehmeti had two active warrants and was logged into CCCF.  Criminal charges pending.
