Fire Department

The area of Mauch Chunk & East Mauch Chunk now the Borough of Jim Thorpe, known for its rich history, had four fire companies serving the boroughs, since the 1800's . The Marion Hose Co was incorporated in 1885 ,and located on West Broadway. The Marion Hose Co was restored in 2017 and is now the Marion Hose Bar & Grill.  The Phoenix Hose Company was also located on West Broadway;The Phoenix  was established around 1875 and merged with Fairview Hose Co to become Onoko Fire & Rescue in 2020 .The Fairview Hose Co building located on the east side of the borough is dated 1910 and is now home to the Onoko Fire and Rescue. The Diligent Fire Co #3 located in heights section of the borough, was incorporated Nov 11,1874 . The Jim Thorpe Municipal Fire Department was established by the Borough of Jim Thorpe, on September 10,2020 and is hereby designated as the officially recognized Fire Department for the Borough. Today, the Jim Thorpe Municipal Fire Department shall consist of two fire companies located within the Borough, being Diligent Fire Company No. 3 of Mauch Chunk, now recognized as the West Side Fire Station, and the Onoko Fire and Rescue Company, now recognized as the East Side Fire Station. These two fire companies shall comprise the Jim Thorpe Fire Department.  If you would like to become a volunteer firefighter and join the municipal fire company, please stop by the borough office during regular business hours to obtain an application.
